How do you know if you are truly ready to go on Pointe. How do you know what dance studio is right for this and if theyre taking too much time to put you on pointe or if they’re rushing?
How do you truly know that you yourself is ready?

I have just recently gone en pointe. I love it and practice hard every day, but find it hard to juggle my studies and dance practice. Did you encounter similar problems when you were still at school and do you have any advice?

I am an dance student in college who just started pointe work about 2 years ago. I find that I am having trouble finding instructors willing to work with older dancers. Is there any reason I can’t or shouldn’t go on pointe? Beyond performance what are some interesting or useful post college careers for dancers?

    Hi!

I am a mom with a desk job. I dance on occassion, but not frequently enough to stay “in shape”. Over the past four years, since my pregnancy I’ve lost nearly all my turnout and now have a less than 90 degree turn out (unless I force it and roll in). I find that I cannot stand in first position without clenching my quads and gluteus muscles. Is there some sort of exercise or stretch I can do during my work day that can help me regain some of the flexibility and strength in my turnout muscles? Thank you!

    Hi :)

I’m 18 years old. I’m a begginer ballet student, and I have low arches, which brings me to my questions:

    1. Am I too old to start ballet/pointe work?
    2. If I’m not, how long should I be dancing ballet before starting on pointe?
    3. What do I do about my feet?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Elisheva :)

I am great at ballet at the least on movement, expression, diversity, strength and imagination for moves to dance but when it comes the flexiblity i am a complete disaster and i am not kiding its horrible and i think thats because last year I left ballet because I had a medical condition and i could not make fast moves and now that I’m back i can’t do almost nothing.
And the worst is that in month my academy have a show and i need more flexibility for it how can i get it in a short time?_? thankx

  7. Have you ever offered an analysis of a pirouette? If you had to analyze one single perfect pirouette, how would you – what words would you use to describe the execution of a pirouette and what mnemonics might you come up with to help convey the ideal pirouette to the student? Also, what images, words, descriptions would you use to help a student logically understand what their body needs to do in a pirouette?

    Dear Lisa and Deborah,

I am on pointe and I was wondering how you can increase the arch in your foot. I don’t have as much of an arch as I would like to and there are also a few other girls in my class who don’t have much of an arch either. My dance teacher also told me that my legs were bo-legged and I was wondering if that will effect my dancing.
    Thanks!

    Hi Lisa and Deborah,
I am a high school student and I sit at a desk for long periods of time. After a while, around my neck area gets really sore and tense. This tension stays with me in my dance classes. Does this have anything to do with my back not being strong enough? What exercises or stretches can I do to prevent this tension and soreness?

I teach level two ballet, my students are 8 – 11 year old. Are there any specific exercises you recommend for this age to better prepare them for whats to come as they advance with their Ballet training?
